I own now:
70 Challenger RT/SE 440 6pack
99 Grand Prix GTP ( I consider it a performance car, because it's faster than the Challenger from 0-70)

And I also own a motorcycle
04 Honda CBR 600 F4I

I used to own a 68 Charger 440.

Never owned one. Closest I got was driving my Uncle's Corvette from the family Chevy dealership in upstate NY. I can't wait...

RE: What Performance Cars Have You Owned?

First car I ever owned was when I was 16 I bought a 1972 Hemi orange 340 4-speed Duster. Next I got a 1969 383 Charger R/T. Then I bought my 1971 Challenger. When I turned 20 I bought a 1970 440 GTX auto. In 1996 I bought a 1988 red Conquest TSI 5-speed. And last but not least I bought a 1991 red Stealth R/T. I have all these cars except the Charger and the Duster. The Duster was totaled when a young girl ran a stop sign and hit me broad sided at 60 mph. RIP. The 340 now resides in my Challenger. The Charger was sold to a guy who wanted to make a show car out of it. I've had my share of muscle cars and even some mini-muscle. Fun factor the 88 TSI is by far the most fun. Rear wheel drive a nice 5-speed and a modded 2.6 putting 245 HP to the wheels. But for just sitting in traffic and idling with the wow factor, my Challenger. That rumpity-rump idle sounds so 70s. That is what you wanted to hear when you drove through the local hang out. Its like the big bark, intimidated a lot of cruisers in the day. They would think about the 1/4 mile run, then you would crank her up and the tune would change. Suddenly someone was late for dinner. My cars are a part of my history and each one tells their own story about a different time in my life. Pre kids, kids, and post kids. My boys are the same way. My oldest has 4 cars and my youngest has 2.

Could you get a 383 in a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T? I thought that the base motor of the R/T was the 440 with an optional 426.

RE: What Performance Cars Have You Owned?

Well I don't know for a fact what was offered in the Charger R/T, but I do know that the engine I had was a 383. I put a 2x4 bbl. offenhouser intake on it and a set of MT aluminium valve covers along with a set of headers. It had a 727 torqueflite trans with console shift. The speed-O had 150 and it had a 8 grand factory tach on the left hand side. Oil, gas, water and fuel guages. The wheels were magnum 500s and the paint was a redo. Emeral green with a black vinyl top. Man I miss that car. The day we put the 2x4s on it my father had put strict rules down to not modify. We tried to get done before he got home and were not successful. He popped his head under under the hood and asked what we were doing as I tuned the back carb primaries for the task of the main feed. I told him we were putting new spark plugs in and were just about finished. I looked at my friend as if to say BUSTED... But Dad did not notice and asked for the keys so he could test drive it. I said yeah because I wanted that hood closed as fast as possible so he would'nt know what we had done. We stayed and my brother rode with Dad. I heard him drive up the road and turn it loose. He came back later when we were all in the front yard and stopped and did a smokey burn out all the way down the street. When he returned , he said ... man what a difference a set of plugs make. He threw me the keys and said be careful that thing will fly. I about passed out and my buddy said you have the coolest dad. I asked him a few years ago when my two brothers were there, if he knew we put 2x4 bbls on the R/T. He said he had no idea, but that would explain why it ran so fast. We still get a kick out of that story even today. ( I believe the 2 black marks are still on the road 150 feet up) If not they are in my mind and it makes me smile to see him cookin those hides off. I wonder if I can talk him into doing it in my 2008 Challenger and I'll video it.;)

Assuming half-ownership counts, 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T with a 440 Magnum and auto transmission. Which is why I wasn't impressed with the original Hemis.
