RE: WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO WARRANTIES IF CHRYSLER SELLS OUT??
Let's see, a "lifetime warranty" but the company offering it is gone.....I would not count on it being honored after the merger......I would think all bets are off unless you have an extended warranty that is underwritten by an outside company. I would also think that GM would have to (or should) offer some type of warranty...even if a "limited" one.......but that's just my best guess..because my crystal ball is broken.....................

MOST companies have an insurance policy to fall back on. The new company MAY limit the lifetime warranty. We had an aftermarket insurance company here file for bankruptcy, one of there underwriters started taking over the policies. Of course nothing set in stone with what can happen. I would thing the Govt would step in for warranty policies. I also remember Daewoo (sp) going under, a few dealerships were able to perform warranty work, but getting parts from over seas was horendous.

Here is an article which answers the question about warranties, and also answers questions about RESALE VALUE of a car whose brand has been discontinued. (Hint: They drop).

I think this article speaks to normal vehicle resale. I and others did not purchase our LE SRT8 Challenger for normal use and trade/resale. Perhaps I'm wrong but I'll see what Craig Jackson and Jay Leno do with thiers. I'm banking they put them deep in the car vault.

The story wieghs heavily on the Oldsmobile and Plymouth brands. I don"t think the SRT8 Challengers is in anywhere near the same class of car. This is certainly not your fathers oldsmobile...
Also not mentioned is how the discontinuation of a brand by the new parent company will be treated as far as warranty. Maybe Dodge brand gets discontinued so GM doesn"t have to back a "lifetime" warranty... or maybe there is a period of time that can be defined as lifetime in such a case.
May not be any simple black and white answers at this point.
