Why a Hot Rod Station Wagon??
Someone help me understand this will you?
2008 Dodge Magnum Dodge gives the Magnum wagon a mild makeover for the 2008 model year, and adds a high performance SRT8 model. The Magnum SRT8 gets a restyled hood with functional air scoop, along with a new fascia and grille. Under that hood is a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 rated at 425 hp. Dodge says the Magnum SRT8 will run from 0 to 60 mph in a bit more than 5 seconds. The restyled Magnums go on sale this fall. So, is this for those hot rod Fry's, Walmart, Cosco - Christmas and weekly grocery shoppers.[&:] |

RE: Why a Hot Rod Station Wagon??
When I was a kid, I remember hot rod Nomads were pretty darn cool. Maybe it's nostalgia, not sure. In 2005, I bought a Magnum R/T, and it really is a fun car. You would be surprised at the number of Mustangs who like to bug me while sitting out a light - and most of them don't know what hit them!
Now, of course, I will use it as fodder for a new Challenger... |
RE: Why a Hot Rod Station Wagon??
I think it would be cool. I don't mind the look of the magnum. As long as it came with a manual transmission, but I doubt it will. Just like they did with the ram srt-10 when they made it an extra cab and didn't offer the MTX. This is for the family person who needs the room but wants a powerful car.

RE: Why a Hot Rod Station Wagon??
ive had several magnums for rentals (2.7L [:'(] ) but ive driven a hemi magnum, and i like them quite a bit. however, we am not at the point in our life where we are considering a station wagon...the only LX car that we would consider is the 300, but ive seen some bad ass magnums...[8D]

Magnums make great company fleet cars. I almost got one but we changed to Dodge Grand Caravans instead.

Oddly though, SUVs which are basically station wagons on a truck platform (or at least they used to be). It's odd that "car-based" SUVs are considered to be cool when in fact the only difference between many of them and minivans is that they don't offer sliding doors. |
RE: Why a Hot Rod Station Wagon??
I think if I had a choice, I would go with the Magnum before the Charger. But that is just my opinion.

RE: Why a Hot Rod Station Wagon??
true...but the family truckster couldnt run 13s with simple mods...if i hada larger family, and i absolutely HAD to have a family vehicle, i would much sooner buy a magnum before i would buy a minivan.
the magnum offers the middle classes family guy the option of having his family vehicle, but also having a vehicle that will keep it close with a mustang GT (pre-05)...and if he has the srt8 variant, he can go after the new GTs, with confidence. i think that DCX does a fine job of covering pretty much every possible performance niche, shy of a pony car...and that future pony car is why we are all here...now they just need a high performance minivan (which they used to make) and they will be set. performance truck-ram srt10 performance SUV-srt8 gc performance station wagon-srt8 magnum performance sedan-srt8 charger, 300c performance compact- srt4 caliber (whenever it comes out) now..we just need the chally. |

Actually, if I was referring to the "family truckster," I would have referred to a 1983 LTD Crown Vic station wagon. I have a relative who still owns a 1985 LTD Crown Vic station wagon with over 300,000 miles on it. Every time I see any station wagon, I instantly think of that faded blue, rusty, torn-up, smelly, dirty, uncomfortable, station wagon. Granted the Magnum is much nicer and way, way, way faster, I still have that negative association from the long trips we would take with ten of us cramped in the station wagon (four adults and 6 kids). It was alot more comfortable in our minivan because of the higher roof.
I'd rather have a minivan for the rare occasions where I would have to be a passenger. There are only three vehicles which I don't mind riding in the back seat in. SUVs, Limos, and minivans. They are all comfortable. The front and rear seats of every other type of car is just too cramped for me. I agree that DCX has done an excellent job of covering just about every niche, its just that I don't think a station wagon will work |
