Your right. I try to avoid doing that, but there is no excuse for a new car failing to beat a predessor nor less a competitor that has been out for a couple years.

what i dont understand..is why are companies building these 2 ton performance cars?!? and how does the challenger weigh 4160lbs? is the frame boxed steel, and injected with lead? GM got it right..3130lbs for the Z06??

I'm trying to figure that one out. I know they are trying to make their cars safer but good grief, it doesn't require you to make them weigh more than the same cars from the 60s and 70s.

it weighs more than my truck! :(

Okay now that is pathetic. A car should never weigh more than a truck. I think the reason why GM is doing better about the weight problem is they have Lutz. Lutz did a good job on offering large vehicles that didn't weigh two tons for Chrysler. While Lutz was designing cars for Chrysler, the fuel mileage improved and the same appears to be happening for GM. I wish those bozos at DCX won't have fired him.

Those are all the arguments I brought in my post " Why is the Challenger so Heavy.

BadStratRT......If I recall didn't you say that you didn't mind the extra weight and that your race car (Mirada) you own is heavy and beats everybody most of the time.

You said back on January 19: "keep in mind, that 505hp corvette is the Z06, which uses a great deal of carbon fiber for the body, and magnesium for the frame...its also 70 grand... "
so you know why the Corvette is so light and they also use Balsa wood in the floor board.

That is probably why it weights so much as it doesn't use the exotic materials and why it weight "2 tons".

Don't get me wrong I would prefer to see a 3500 lbs Challenger....I have argued that all along.

i mean for the discussion at hand, the GT500 is no competition for the Z06 because of the weight...

the weight of the challenger is an inconvenience, but the price tag could be a bigger one...

You are right about the price tag, especially if they dangle a carrot in front of us with a 6.4L and try to charge $45K.
