4speed linkage problem

I have a 72 Challenger with a 318 and 833 4speed. I bought a pistol grip shifter and linkage but, my problem is that I am not familiar with the way the linkage and the trans levers are to be positioned. It looks as though the rods are going to hit the crossmember. I am also assuming the shifter mounts to the rear mounting position on the trans; otherwise the pistol grip will be too far forward. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks!

RE: 4speed linkage problem

The reverse linkage goes on the drivers side with bend pointing towards the door. I think it goes just like this, except flip the other two so the linkage bolts to the shifter

There shouldn't be an issue with it hitting the crossmember. Hopefully you got the right shifter, do you have a center console? I know they make different lengths.
If at all possible, post up some pics, and I will try and help you out.

I agree with JDB and yes, E-bodies use the rear mount on the trans. The front mount is for B-Bodies.

why it's happened, could anyone please advice me? ??
