Default 70 Challenger tach

I have a 70 Challenger R/T 383 #matching. When I got the car the tach was not hooked up. I hooked it up but it shows about double what I am running..Show 7000 rpm at 65 mph with a 4.11 gear.... Any one have any idea how to fix this ????

Not much on the electrical but it sounds like an internal problem with the tach. I know of a few advertisers who will rebuild them like new for a $$$ sum. Year One is one of those. It could be something simple or more complicated. I don't think it has anything with how its hooked up. It then either works or does'nt. Maybe one of our electrical gurus can help out? Anyone?

If you decide to have it rebuilt, I'd recomend Bob's Spedometer here in Michigan (Milford) long term company, I've had guages done there, fast, quality, square deal.
