Default 2nd Problem with the car

Well this one isn't as big an issue, but still the story is worth telling.

So I noted that over the past weekend, the ipod was rather loud when I started up the car, so I turned the volume off, removed the ipod and turned off teh car. I turned the car back on and the volume was at 20. I did this for about a half hour and had the same results. SO Monday morning I took the car into the closest dealership and mentioned that if it was the aux jack that it would mean a radio order and to let me know when it could be in. So the tech says I can fix it and off he goes. About 1hr later the car is ready to go and teh tech says I cleaned the jack and has had no issues. I leave the lot and the problem was the same. so I went around the block and pulled into the service bay and the writer looks at me and shakes his head. So he calls the tech back in and teh tech takes the car. Now I kept the ipod with me and was listening to it in the waiting room. The tech comes back in 15mins and says "it's your Ipod.... not sure why but the ipod is the issue... you need a new one...' so I said to the tech "how did you determine the ipod is the issue...?" and he tells me and the service writer well we ran the unit and the ipod is the issue. I then looked at him and said how did you test the ipod when I've had it the entire time??? and the tech get s mad and says it's your ipod and that is what I have made a note of.... so I stood there and started to get a bit heated and then started rather loudly that I am to beleive you diagnosed a car problem with an invisible ipod and determined taht is the problem. So I plugged the ipod connector into the jack and pulled the advisor into the car ans we set the radio to 0, turned teh car off and waited 1min, then turned the key on and teh radio was at 20... the tech just stood there, the advisor goes into teh service managers office and comes out with a smile and says your radio will be here here in the morning, come in and we'll look after you.

So yesterday we head in and get the new radio installed, the dash trim wasn't pushed in properly, it was scrathed, so the advisor went in and ordere a new bezel peice for me... still haven't checked the ipod connection yet....

I'm assuming so... so after I posted this I went back out to the car and pulled the deck... the bastards didn't even change out the unit as I was told.... funny unless all the (RES) model decks ALL have the same S/N this one is still the same freakin deck???? I called my salesmen and he says what can I do to fix this?? I told him I want a BRAND NEW deck that I can physically see, and watch a new tech change out.... or give me an upgrade with Nav.... (doubt that 'll happen) but a new unit I can see from Chrysler and a tech to install.

i just got off the phone with the service writer and he's nopw telling me that the Service Manager says that this is normal, that the volume on the radio defaults to 20 when the ipod jack is plugged in??????????? WTF!!!! so i'm calling Chrysler Canada (if I can get through) and try to resolve this.

I have seen another place were someone noted this issue. THey did not have a resolution though. I have used my daughters IPOD thee or four times and have not had the issue. HOWEVER, someone else has had your issue and it was at the same volume level as well. Sounds like it is somewhat common of a problem huh.

so the car just left the shop, and again I hang in my head in shame and in sheer frustration. They are now blaming the Ipod for the problem and it's genetic faults causing this problem. I called the tower manager as the service manager is away on vaca, and explained to take the ipod out of the equation and just plug in ANYTHING with an aux connection to get the problem. And the service writer that sat in the car with me when I duplicated the problem even agreed that wasn't normal. SO now to alieviate the stress of this I now have to spend $120 for the Ipod connector that plugs into the back of the deck and runs into my glovebox????? Why bother stating this is an IPOD jack if it isn't!!!!

They dont state it as an ipod specific jack, its an AUX jack. Thats why they offer the ipod jack option. When you talk to anyone about it make sure you say AUX jack not ipod jack so they know where the actual issue is. Its does seem like a bug that the volume goes to a pre-set level. It should stay wherever you last set it.

It's not your Ipod, it will never be your Ipod and there is nothing that you can do to you Ipod to change it and get it to work with your radio.

I didn't think anything of this thread until the other day. I don't have an Ipod so I never thought it would be an issue. I have a Sansa MP3 player, among other things it can do. I plug it in and next thing you know I'm blasting at 20 and then some. In the Mustang I would turn the volume up all the way on the MP3 player and then adjust my stereo since it wasn't to loud otherwise, and didn't default to 20. Imagine my surprise when this happened. They would be replacing my speakers if they blew that's for sure.

Obviously this is something that's part of the stereo that they didn't seem to test to much before deciding to put them in the cars. Either that or it's a "feature" of the radio which really sucks.
