My computer says 15.6 mpg... and I gotta tell ya... I drive the crap out of it when I drive it.

Haven"t filled the tank full up yet... just keep feeding it $20-$30 bills... seems like every time I drive it... [8D]

Smoked the stock converter lock up... how does one do that... and what does it do to the car?
Lock up is a 2-disk clutch inside the converter that turns the fluid coupling into true one to one on apply. Most transmissions use this feature in overdrive, and some use it to certain degrees from 2nd gear on to assist fluid coupling. I have a manual switch I wired for the dyno, and think I push through it enough to glaze the OE paper clutches. My new converter uses high carbon, and I have 4 disks fit into it. I should have waited to test the switch after the new converter install.

So tranny behaves ok... just never successfully reaches lock-up mode?

Correct. It just runs a couple hundred rpm higher on the tack right now.
I see the lock up washed out on MANY of the LX cores I use. I would call it an inherent problem, but I did it faster because the abuse.

While the glue may have attributed to the issue, it was the scary clown that provoked me.

Andrew
Will the new converter help the general driveing habits of the car and will it impove milage any . Also whats the best way to get the best 0 to 60 times with the trac control on or off . When I get the time I plan on basicly doing the same mods you have done

And whats your quarter mile times and 0 to 60 .

1971cuda,
I welcome you to call me direct with converter questions anytime. I dont sponsor this forum, and My enthusiasm over the gains from the converter mod “could” be seen as an attempt to sell product by the moderators.

I can say the right performance converter will be the best bolt on you will do. No down side if done right…. Better mileage, or more power… good or evil. No manners lost, less heat from more efficient coupling. Many forums have sections on gains from this mod. It’s an automatic Mustangs best trick. The number one reason to have the automatic over the manual is torque multiplication. The manual obtains one to one when the clutch stops slipping. A performance converter can be set as high as 2.40 – 1 before topend mph is effected…. Lol, nough said.

I read the review on Allpar as well. To me, I was amazed they were grumbling about the car being perhaps too loud and you really need to concentrate when driving it....Hello, this is a MUSCLE CAR!!

Their griping on those points were actually positives to me as I could give a crap about how the Nav system works or the temp controls as they seemed to focus on...

give me a break...
