Warp Drive

Does anyone know of any commercially available front license plate brackets for the challenger that won't damage the front bumper? I'm gonna be getting my new Challenger next week, and I'd really rather not drill the front bumper. I did a search of this site, and I saw some really good ideas about using tie staps, foam, etc. I may have to go down this route, but if something were available that could simply be purchased to eliminate this problem, that would be great.

I don't know about the Challenger but on Mustangs they have very tiny holes for license plates that can be drilled out for plate screws but many don't and just use very tiny stainless steel screws with rear nuts to mount the plates.

I used the 6" stainless steel spring toggle bolt technique in the lower grill with surgical tubing to cover the threads. Works great and no holes in my SRT's front bumper!

On the Mustang, they are not holes, just dimples. But I'm just being nitpicky.

There was a hide-away plate that you could manually flip forwarad and slide under the car for the S197 Mustangs but I think the R/Ts chin spoiler would not allow it to work properly. Here is something similar on a different car.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Mot250, I liked the electrically retractable license plate you posted. Pretty cool.

Unfortunately, when I went to pick up my Challenger last week, they had already attached the front license plate mount to the bumper. I was slightly perturbed, but all in all it didn't look as bad in person as it does in the pictures. Anyway, I'm not planning on moving to another state, so it probably doesn't make that much difference.

Maybe I was just glad to get the car. It was a 6 speed R/T I'd had on order since November, and I was really wondering if it was going to get produced with Chrysler in such bad shape and all. Having finally gotten it, I will say its one beautiful car and a pure joy to drive. I feel like I've stepped out of the dark ages when it comes to driving (I had been driving a 94 Honda Accord for 14 years). I've definitely got the grin. I love the rumble of the exhaust and the acceleration. The Mygig/GPS is incredible also and definitely worth the money.

I mounted down low on the bottom grille. I took eye-bolts and opened them up so they would hook behind the grille ... worked good. Now I just need to paint it black.

same here 6" toggle bolts, flip the bracket over and mount it to the
lower grille opening. works great and looks like it belongs there.

also for all of you future purchasers, MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM NOT TO
MOUNT THE FRONT PLATE FOR YOU AND I DO MEAN MAKE IT CLEAR.

same as OP couple friends of mine asked and when they picked up their cars
that had mounted the bracket anyway.

While I have thought the retractable front plate is cool, I would be concerned with it rubbing on any number of things. I think this is one of the finest looking products out there as a very viable option, although myself, I have just forgone putting on a plate altogether.

I used a piece of galvanized slotted angle and the screws that came with the OEM license plate holder.
