Picked up my SRT a couple of weeks ago although it will be in the garage until April or so, I want to take the opportunity to detail the thing before I hit the road. I'm looking for your advice on the 20 inch wheels. They look to me like forged aluminum with some type of clear coat finish on them. I'm looking for a cleaner and a polish / wax that won't mess up the coating on them. I'd like to get something on them so I don't have to chisel the brake dust off every time I wash it, know what I mean?

Any experience you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

Use a cleaner thats safe for clear coats. Use a non abrasive wax or polish on the wheels. Follow up with an antistatic spray made by Zaino to keep the dust off. Hope that helps...

Most detail products are decent. I personally like Meguiar's NXT 2.0 wax. Good clay bar job followed up by a couple coats of NXT and it'll look excellent. If you keep it garaged and it doesn't sit in the sun much the wax will last quite a while.

I agree. I like the NXT 2.0 as well which I follow up with Instant Detail to lock in the rain protection. My question was really on the 20" wheels which seem to have some clear coat on them. I've since been advised by a detail guy to treat them exactly like the paint, clay bar and NXT 2.0 as well.

Mopar Guy, I think your detail guy hit the nail on the head with his advice, that's exactly what I do. That being said, you'll still have tons of the brake dust getting on your wheels, there's simply no way to avoid it.

Yep, good point. I'm just hoping that with enough wax and instant detail, I won't have to chisel the brake dust off next time, know what I mean?

Absolutely, just stay on top of it, wash off the wheels frequently, and you should be in good shape.

I don't want to come off wrong, but I'd like to put my 2 cents in about clay bars. I bought the Mequiers package and tried it on the new Challenger. One spot, about 1 ft. square. Didn't notice a licks bit of difference from the rest of the car. I also tried 1 side of my Harley tank, and a small area on my wifes 75 Mini Cooper. Did not find any improvements in either case. I know some of the members swear by clay bars. But I just think I've been ripped off for $20. A good wash followed by carnuba wax works fine. As I said, this is just my opinion but spending a whole day for questionable improvement doesn't justify the effort.

What's the best leather treatment out there? Lots of opinions on waxes and polishes but haven't heard much on leather treatment.
