I think mopar2ya summed it up pretty well: NOBODY can tell what's going to happen. You have to do what's best for you.

RE: Should I Settle???
I find all this very interesting. Car mfg are lossing money but can't fill in orders. Dealers are lossing money but still have 08 and my dealer has not sold the two se's and on RT they have. The dealers with the 08's are still trying to gouge customers. But all this does not look good. The mfg see this as having inventory not sold. So it would be real hard to predict what is going to happen. I personally do not think this is a cheep car to mfg. It is not a must have car and has MPG issue that could challenge the new fed requirements. I do not think it will be around long and that is sad..
So I am happy I got an 08 at a fair price. I am happy I bought when I did. Would I have like a stick OH YES. But I am happy with my auto. I think of it as owning one of a few real cool cars built. I could not be happer. I would have to agree there maybe a lot for sale due to these difficult times. That maybe another source to get one. You will have to roll the dice and chose what will make you happy. After all you do not need it but it is nice to have..
Best of luck with your decision..

RE: Should I Settle???
My personal opion is that this time next year is when the deals can be had. For example my local dealer has 2008 Mustang GT's MSRP $27k marked down to $19,999, (the v6 Mustang is $15,999). I think that is something like $5k below invoice, clearing out the 08 inventory to make room for the 09's.
The Challenger is such a neat car and a icon they should sell very well for a while, then everyone that has to have on will have one. Demand will drop off, especially since it is a somewhat expensive car. By that I mean one local dealer has two R/T's, pretty loaded, MSRP $37k. Now, that is alot of money to alot of folks, especially with the economy what it is, those cars might sit for awhile.
The problem is, who knows what the world will look like in a year.
YMMV

RE: Should I Settle???
With the merger on the horizon, I see dealers marking them up as the car will be discontinued sooner then later. Better move why you can.

I would not look to reference mustang as you model for future sales. Production numbers are real high and the market is fully saturated. I have wanted to dig up a SRT8 300c or Jeep for cheep. Never happened for me!!!

RE: Should I Settle???
This time next year the 09 Challengers will be sitting on the lot with the 2010's comming in, well maybe. Also the 2010 Camaro will be out in the spring of 09 which should have a impact on Challenger sales. Depending on whether or not there is a merger or bankruptcy. Just a sec let me polish up my crystal ball.
