I take that back. Looked on a web site and they have a SRT for 49K.

I saw one of the new “Transformers” Camaro in the wild last weekend, and I must say that the extra body panels really help the looks of the new Camaro. Or is that just that they cover up the way the Camaro actually looks???? Anyway, I could do without the bright yellow with black racing stripes (had that color combination on my old Superbird back in High School). Each to his own I guess, so as long as the owner likes it….

Everyone and his brother keeps bringing up how heavy the new Challenger is, well it is a big car, that’s just the way it is. I would have loved for Dodge to have trimmed down the weight a bit, but I wouldn’t trade anything for that weight savings. My SRT handles more like a sports car, than a 4000+ sedan, and has all the speed I need for the occasional…”that will teach you to mess with the new Challenger” street matchups. (I myself of course would never even think about street racing…..but if I did…well the new Challenger can handle most that cross its path) I like my Challenger just the way it is. And, how much real drag strip type racing do most Challenger owners do….1%, 5%....for most of us its cruising, and car shows, not speed contests. So the extra weight is really a non issue. Besides I want Camaro and Mustang owners to see more of my Challenger than just the back end on a drag strip!

The thing that gets me about the Camaro is that I've already seen three on the streets. It was months after the Challenger came out before I'd see three.

Can you fill me in on what the axle ratios are on the SRT vs the Camaro SS?

And I fully agree, with cars that close, it's a driver's race on the streets.
Just as a point of contention, I met up with a new Camaro SS (silver) at the dragstrip a few weeks back (7/1, in fact) on a test'n'tune night. I didn't spank him with my SRT (6 speed), but I DID beat him by .14. He ran a 13.77 @ 106.8, and I ran a 13.63 @ 105.99. He was also running a manual. It was very humid and warm - storms moving in, and the track was hard to get a good launch on. Respectable numbers for those conditions.

I have nothing against either of the cars, but soon, like the Mustang, you won't be able to throw a stone in any direction without hitting a Camaro.

I believe you, and nothing wrong with a 13.6. IMO, the driver is the biggest factor in a race. I just pointed out that with equal drivers, the Camaro is faster.

By chance, what times were other Challengers (RT and SRT) and Camaros running?

I KNOW! I'm lucky if i see a Challenger in the wild. But I've seen 4 Camaro's in the past week.

That was the only Camaro there that night, and I had the only new Challenger that night as well. On other TnT nights, I've seen one other Challenger SRT run 13.55 in similar conditions. Not sure if he had an auto or 6 speed.
Launching with 3.92's here seems to be the real trick. Track prep isn't bad, but the weather can be a bear.
