Big Trouble Need Help
Well spring has sprung and i pulled out the ole 73' 340 4barrel for the summer and have enough gas in it to go to a gas station the only problem is i seemed to have lost my gas cap key and i found all the keys except that one i have searched my house head to toe and have come up with nothing at all and it is driving me crazy to have a car just sit there begging to eat some pavement i ttok it to the local key shop and they couldnt seem to open it and all they came up with was i could drill it out but that i never want to have to resort to that any ideas help would be appreciated and very much welcomed!!!

i seem to recall that when i was a mechanic, you could pry the top part of the cap off...mind you, it will ruin it, but still...
once you have broken/pryed the black part of the cap off, you should be able to twist the rest..keep in mind, the way that a locking cap works, is that the outer black piece turns freely until the key engages some crude mechanism inside and it "catches". i would just break it off.

I had the same thing happen to me. What I did was take a flat head screw driver, stick it in the key slot, took a hammer and hit it once, the screw driver went in, and twisted it and it locked the mechanism and it twisted right off.
