RE: Point Man - Week #4
True character is revealed not by what a man does when people are watching but by what he does when nobody is around.
Point Man – Week #4 A bible study on a man leading his family based on the Steve Farrar book.
Well I hope everybody had as great a week as I did spending time with my 2 youngst son who was home from college for spring break and left yesterday, but we had a great time catching up.
We got real serious last week in our bible study and bottom line we talked that “Something that real men must not do if there is any hope of saving their boys is commit adultery. This week we will talk about being a one-woman kind of man.
Guys, if we have any hope of saving our boys we have to save our marriages. How do we do that……by commitment? Well, commitment is the act of committing and to commit by definition is to : “to commit oneself to a promise” or guarantee that you will do what you promised. We have to commit to the vows we made……remember the ones we made at the altar, “for better or for worse, in sickness’ and in health, as long as you both shall live”.
So what does the Bible have to say on this subject?
Malachi 2:15-16
15 Hasn't he made the two of you one? Both of you belong to him in body and spirit. And why has he made you one? Because he was looking for godly children. So guard yourself in your spirit. Don't break your promise to the wife you married when you were young.
16 "I hate divorce," says the Lord God of Israel. "I hate it when people do anything that harms others," says the Lord who rules over all.
So guard yourself in your spirit. And don't break your promises.
I think God make it very clear on what He has to say on the subject of divorce.
In regards to commitment, unfortunately in this day and age promises and commitments has lost its meaning. It is not good enough to keep your word, promise, or your vow you have to have it in writing and via a legal document. Even then that is not a sign that somebody will keep their commitment whether it is marriage, business, politics, or professional sports. Just know that a promise is a promise no matter what and know that God is watching and knows everything you do, think, and say. Remember the definition of “True Character” at the beginning of this lesson? Scroll up if you have to look.
For you Marine guys please bear with me as you already know this but what does Semper Fidelis mean? This was the Marine Corp motto adopted in 1883 that in Latin means “Always Faithful”. But it is more than just a motto for the Marines, it is a way of life. It is a commitment they all share for their country, to their Corps, and to each other.
That is why there are no ex-Marines only former Marines. We could all learn from that, especially the first word of the motto “Always”…….not just when we feel like it.
When we run a 100 yard dash, we suck it up and do the 100 yards not 95 yards. Every day we have to be committed to run the marriage race. Our sons need to learn this lesson from his father and he will have a tremendous advantage when he becomes a husband. He will learn to be responsible in the marriage even though sometimes things are not going so good, as there are always hills and valleys in a marriage. So in addition to being committed, this also means being a one-woman kind of man.
So what does that mean? If we are going to save the boys, we must first save our marriages. The way to save our marriages is to become a one-woman kind of man.
So how do I do that? Well let me back up just a second and explain something. Guys are just wired differently than gals, in case some of you were wondering. LOL! Sorry I had to put something funny in here. Guys have radar antennas in their heads and when a gal walks into the room it is natural for the guys to look at her. But after that initial look is when we mentally thin
