Default RE: American Dream: We drive the Interceptor, the full-size sedan that could save Ford

ORIGINAL: 1 Bad Mirada

its worse in person.
That it is! I saw one at the K.C. autoshow and it was one of the ugliest cars there.[:'(][:'(][:'(] Why don't they learn from Ford of Australia and use some of their styling cues. The Falcon is a nice looking car, why can't they use the styling from it and give it to the Interceptor. Part of what Ford fails to understand is they have three divisions competiting in the same segment, upscale image to luxury. What they need is a performance division. Chrysler has Dodge, GM has Pontiac, and Ford has nothing because they keep trying to pass Ford off as being a premium brand which has no performance besides the Mustang and one car does not define a whole division. The Fusion is the slowest domestic mid-sized sedan currently, the Five Hundred can't compete against the Grand Prix in either the supercharged version nor the V8 version due to the fact that it has the weak 3.0L Duratech that was unupdated since 1996 (the 3hp & 7ft-lbs of torque boost is not worth counting as an update). Even though it has a 6-speed, that only covers the weight increase of the Five Hundred over the Taurus and improves the fuel economy. Heck the Charger completely blows it out of the water with either HEMI option. The G6 and the Avenger both offer better acceleration than the Fusion by a note worthy amount do to the fact that both of them offer more hp & tq since they were willing to offer a larger engine as well as a 6-speed automatic. The Focus has never offered anything that could match either the Neon SRT-4 or the Cobalt SS/Ion Red Line. The Crown Vic also is extremely outdated and cannot hold a candle to the Charger's performance.

10-15 years ago, Ford actually offered some noteworthy performance. The pre-1996 Taurus SHO was one of the fastest non-luxury mid-sized cars in the market. The 1989-1995 Thunderbird SC was quite noteworthy interms of performance for its day. The Probe GT had note worthy performance for its day for a mid-sized coupe. After this the performance just started to die.

The F-150 doesn't have a V8 that can match the acceleration of the HEMI or GM's V8s before they were updated in the latest version. They need to inject their cars with Red Bull and quite making such a boring line and quite using so much chrome. A little is good for an accent but all models having that much is redicilous.
