Default Age/experience is not reducing insurance rates

Called my insurance guy earlier today for an estimate on insurance.

Even though My wife and self are both 43 - 44 with clean driving records and an outstanding credit record (yes insurance companies check that nowadays), no children at at driving age and will only do a few thousand miles per year on this 3rd vehicle just for pleasure, he estimates $1,200/yr for this additional vehicle. I'm sure I'm going to be shopping insurance companies since the car is classified as a muscle car with substantial horsepower and a $42k price tag.

Best of luck to you younger drivers especially those without the clean driving records.

At least the car will have traction control for many who are inexperienced which will hopefully reduce the insurance premiums as well as keep many from driving over their head and possibly killing themselves or others.

How many of you are driving overpowered cars with no traction control and have had "interesting experiences?"

I've been known to spin my car around at 70+ MPH on the highway with a small push on the pedal in my 550 Hp 71 Cuda. Was also clocked at top speed of 176 mph prior to gear change from 2.76 to 4.56:1 Have done some other crazy stuff in my brother's Viper (pre traction control.)

Would love to hear some experiences of people buying the 08 Challenger.

Eric
