Default 2008 Chicago Auto Show: 2008 Dodge Challenger

CHICAGO — At long last, Chrysler has dropped the other shoe on the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, which makes its formal debut here at the annual show.

There aren't many details left that haven't already been revealed earlier by the automaker or leaked on numerous Web sites. But here are the salient points:

The 2008 Challenger is available only in the limited-edition SRT8 version, powered by a 6.1-liter Hemi V8 rated at 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Priced from $37,995, including a $675 shipping charge, the '08 Challenger goes on sale this spring.

Chrysler says the Challenger SRT8 should be able to lope from zero to 60 mph in "the low 5-second range" and pull 0.88 g on the skid pad. The quarter-mile run should take less than 14 seconds, while the 0-100-0-mph loop will be accomplished in less than 17 seconds.

Chrysler is offering the Challenger SRT8 in three colors — Hemi Orange, Bright Silver Metallic and Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat — with wide hood stripes painted to resemble carbon fiber. The '08 models each come with an individually numbered dash plaque.
