Generally Missouri has cheaper gas than IL due to the fact that the sales tax is lower in Missouri. This is why one town that is a border community from Illinois and Missouri has to position their prices more competitively because of competition from a few gas stations just over the bridge crossing the Mississippi River. You will see people driving over that bridge for precisely that purpose.
