Default RE: This could be it

AMG is hardly the most innovative performance division in the world, all they basically do is squeeze more hp and tq by using methods that have been out for an extremely long time. No offense to our European members, but Europe is hardly the innovator in engine technology, that would be Japan and sometimes the U.S. The fact of the matter is that it was only recently that Mercedes actually got VVT while the Japanese had those systems back in the 90s. Mercedes needs a 5-speed to get the work of a 4-speed done, they need a 7-speed to get the work of a 6-speed done, they are hardly an example of the cutting edge of anything. Take what this guy says with a grain of salt, or more. What is the largest displacement that has ever been in a normal production model car made by the Big Three? The current 8.4L V10. Who would have thought back in the late 70s to early 80s that displacement would ever extend beyond what was ever offered in cars of the late 60s to 70s? The issue is despite the fact that the displacement continues to increase in cars, the fuel economy is increasing with it because of the newer technologies being offered with it and the fact that when an engine produces more power, you can use taller gearing to offset to displacement increase and many times get better fuel economy anyways. My advice is ignore the doom and gloomers.
