RE: Proud to be an American
To be fair we don't have an official language. I agree about the mini-country thing though. Some people come here and refuse to adapt to our culture. I understand it has to be difficult to leave your home country and you would look to familiarity at first. Going to people who have done what you're doing is the best way to get situated. But there are people who come live here and never learn to speak to people outside their group, never shop at american stores, and involve their kids only within their ethnicity. If your culture is so much better than ours you would not have had to leave your country.
