Not sure where you get your info from, but a car ordered is a car sold as far as LLC is concerned. If it sits on the lot, its due to dealer greed, not the economy. Therein, 09 production begins in ten days and the numbers made will reflect the number of orders. As far as what gets built first, again, its dependent on whats ordered. Why would you NOT build one trim level over another? If the order is placed, the car is sold as far as LLC is concerned. The restructuring LLC has undergone allows dealers to order what they can sell and arent being forced to inventory slow movers. No more gee, if you want a Charger R/T on your floorplan, you,ll have to sell 5 Caravans to get that car. I dont know how many SRTs Dodge will cap production at, but it makes no sense to make fewer of the 09s than the limited edition 08s - especially because of GM not making a Z28 Camaro. Wouldnt that be potential for more sales of the Challenger SRT? Isnt Ford still making Shelbys? Will they cut back production because GM axed the Z28? Sorry but no Z28 means more market for the SRT Challenger.
For 2009 SRT-8 are limited to 3800 according to our insider BUDMAN. Also, each dealer is only getting a certain allocation based on overall srt-8 past sales Challengers, Chargers, 300c, Jeep, Viper, Magnum. As we have all seen with the 2008s, Dodge really dropped the ball as most people who ordered 1st are getting their cars LAST. The dash numbers mean nothing, no logical order on how the cars were badged and the number is not even recorded on the window sticker. Dodge is also buiding the 2009s in bunches. So all SE and automatic R/t are going to be built first. Dodge also wants to keep the srt-8 a limited production car, unlike mr. Shelby building over 20,000 gt500 and flooding the market. Right now, Chrysler LLC is clueless how to run a car company and I would not be surprised if they file BK and break up the company as none of their cars are fuel efficient and their future is very bleak.
