Check your state DMV site on line. NY has a link to see if the "vanity plates" you want are available or already taken. That should eliminate some possibilities without surprise.
Seems the displacement plates are
usually uncontested/available, like
345 HEMI or
370 HEMI or?
429 HEMI.
Plates like
LUV2XLR8 are tough to get. The folks that have them already usually transfer them to other cars.
