I would reword it to something like "be a real driver and drive a manual"

Many moons ago traded in our only family car for a stick. Told my wife (then girlfriend) - learn to drive it or you have no wheels. Within a half hour she was proficient enough to handle it with no more assistance needed from me/others.

She can't wait to drive the Challenger and I have more faith in her stick driving than many. Yes, she will drive it too.
