Thanks, everyone!
My wife had a doctor's appointment early this afternoon downtown, so we took the Mustang to it (the parking lot is tiny and I'm still not used to the size of the Challenger). Afterward, we ran home and got the Challenger and took it back out.
The response it gets is simply amazing. We were heading to Starbucks along an access road next to I-35 and some people driving next to us were taking pics with cell phones. Later, we were at Wal-Mart and when we came out, some guys had pulled up next to it in a Dodge Ram pickup and were taking pics of it. We nearly caused several wrecks because people coming toward us were so busy looking at the Challenger that they were almost running off the road.
The '70 Challenger used to draw some attention (particularly in its later years when those cars were becoming fairly rare), but
NOTHING like the '09 gets.
Overpowered asked how the SE runs. Pretty good, actually. I haven't even tried a hard acceleration, as I've only had it on the freeway once (last night, coming back from the dealer when it was still rush hour) and while we were out this evening, it started raining lightly and the streets started getting pretty slick. Normal, on-the-street driving, however, feels about the same as my V-6 Mustang. In other words, easily enough engine for the weight of the car.
Brucer41 asked if the wait and aggravation were worth it. In two word, HELL YES!
And in answer to Billionaire, I'm going with a black rocker panel stripe that has the word Challenger cut out in script. Old school, but with a modern look.
At Wal-Mart, we picked up a digital camera, so after I get the stripes put on, I'll post some pics. Hopefully.
