Default Speed vs. Mileage

I ran across this article in a local paper;

"Auto Scene" by Jim Mateja

GAS-SAVING TECH?

Question: How can one find the car that gets the best mileage when driving at 80 mph? Please don't lecture me on the downsides of speeding, since I drive for hours on the interststes and regularly travel at those speeds to save time. Since I would like to also save gas, is there somewhere that rates the mileage of various cars when going that fast? I'am looking for something to replace my 2002 Toyota Avalon. - M.L., Chicago

Answer: Lecture? How can anyone fault saving gas as well as time, though the innocent folks who might lose their lives when you lose control might argue otherwise. We called some automakers and were told that while cars are tested for a variety of things at high speeds, mileage isn't one of them. Perhaps you could try a Dodge Challenger R/T with a 5.7 liter Hemi V-8 that shuts off 4 cylinders when "Cruising" at 80 mph.

Could it be that our cars can now be considered "Economy Cars"? (At high speed any way) (*Now I wonder what kind of mileage my Challenger gets on the drag strip.....)
