Default RE: Gas

ORIGINAL: bored out

I actually thought a good point was brought up in the sales posting. The point was gas.

How is gas milage for the two hemi v-8s?

Is the gas in the 6.1 that much worse then the 5.7?

Will the gas milage be an important variable for you when purchasing?

Is the 6.1 hemi really such a beast that you can't keep it on the road?
It depends on whether you want real life results or just EPA numbers. The EPA numbers from the LX cars are 17/25 city/highway 20 combined for the 5.7L MDS, and the 6.1L gets 14/20 highway 16 combined.

From what I have read and heard, the real life results are very good for the 5.7L. It gets better fuel economy than some V6 cars rated at better mileage. Both engines seem to have very accurate ratings. Although this might sound bad for the 6.1L, some magazines got better results with the SRT-8 s than they did with GM's 5.3L with Displacement on Demand (DOD) in the W-cars (Grand Prix GXP, Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS) which is rated at 18/28 city/highway 22 combined (18/27 city/highway 21 combined for the Grand Prix GXP). Therefore, the EPA ratings are often times way off and do not properly indicate what is really more fuel efficient than other cars.
