The company has hired an investment banking adviser to explore selling the company, now based in Troy, Michigan.
One of the company's biggest revenue generators, painting and providing sub-assembly work for the Dodge Viper, is up in the air: Chrysler announced its intention to find suitors to take over Viper production.
Company founder Steve Saleen quit nearly two years ago. He quickly signed on with another company with plans to import a pickup truck from China, but that effort folded in 2008.
Since the company's inception in 1984, Saleen has produced more than 12,000 complete vehicles, and has provided components for installation on more than 600,000 vehicles worldwide".
