Agreed. When I built an R/T on dodge's site I was able to get a vehicle with all the stuff I wanted including a stripe and a block heater. For less than $33,500. To me that seemed fairly competitive. The mustang was still cheaper but that was OK. You got a bigger car with the challenger, and it looks a bit better IMO at least on the exterior.
If I hadn't pulled the trigger a year ago and got the mustang, and had kept saving instead, then I would've ended up with the R/T. Even at MSRP it was just to much money for me to lose by selling the mustang at that point. So I kept it.
