My name is Zack Green. I recently got back on my 70' Chall resto i've had going since 2005. Long, slow process, but it's worth it for my grail car. I found it in Croswell Michigan. Previous owner wasn't too nice, and left it parked in a field for two years. It was rotted beyond what most people would bother saving, but this was the only way I could afford one. I actually got it running, and road worthy enough to make the trip back to Detroit with it.
The Challenger was originally a 225 slant six car with a cloumn shifted 904 torqueflite. Out back was a 8- 1/4 rear. The engine was replaced with another 225 in 1980. The car originally came in Alpine White and had blue interior with bucket seats.
The thing was rough. REALLY ROUGH! Previous owners did some shotty, shoemaker stuff to it. It also appeared to be in a head-on collision early in it's life. I ended up tearing it all down, and throwing half the car away, because it was so bad. My plans are to make a T/A ("somewhat") clone out of it. I already collected a crap-load of parts for it including the 340, 8-3/4 rear, and a complete, mint, frame rail set. The frame rails, including the inner fender walls came from California. They were in such good shape, I hated to think about the car that was cut up for it! I was also able to contact one of my car's previous owners, and score the Ralley Rims he had on it.
All in all, it's a huge job. But I enjoy it, and it's relaxing to work on. I am no guru restorer. In fact I know nothing. But I am teaching myself, learning from others, & learning a bunch of new skills along the way.
It's easy for me to get discouraged when I think about everything that needs to get done, but I am focusing on each little job , and seeing it through. "It's not the destination, but the journey"...... I keep telling myself that. Some wise, old, car guy told me, "Don't let it intimidate you. Just think of it as a big Go-Kart....that's all it really is.
Well, I'm glad to be here. I know I'll have questions galore sooner or later. But for the time being, I'm going to get my hands in there, get them dirty, and F__k S__t up!
