I don't think it is a must. But for what it keeps out of the intake track I think its worth the cost. Sort of like running the best oil over the minimum oil needed. I like the best and I use it in all my cars. Just added insurance to cover all the bases. The first time you empty your can out you will see that it was well worth it. You will think that could of went right through my intake and on top of my pistons. To sit and simmer on the top until the engine cools down. So its what it is and I think worth the cost.
