Default New Hemi Limitations

While many of us are content to cruise and look cool in our Mopars, others love to put "the pedal to the metal" and push their cars to the limit. The difference between bringing home a trophy or bringing home a large box with bits of your car is knowing your limits and not exceeding them. As Dirty Harry once said, "A man's got to know his limitations" (or in this case the limits of your car).
For those wanting more power from their Mopar, checkout the Tech Advice article in the May 2011 issue of Hot Rod Magazine. The article is entitled; "Got an '08-"11 Dodge? Here's What's Gonna Break", and explains how much horsepower major components can withstand, as well as how to increase their longevity with aftermarket performance parts. Even if you are not planning a trip down the quarter mile any time soon, the article is a good overview of the modern Hemi.
Interestingly, DC Performance was quoted as stating that the 6.1 remains reliable on the street with up to a 35 percent power increase. While the 5.7 can tolerate 30 percent with no major short block mods.
Much of the article's information carries over to the '06-current Charger, '05-'08 Magnum, and the '05-current Chrysler 300, in addition to the new Challenger.
