I am on the camp of losing weight. I am a big proponent of power/weight ratio and it's a whole lot easier to take it off than adding power.
That is why cars like Lotus and Porsche are so fast is because they weight less is such a smaller engine. I would think 3500-3700 would be good.

I also admire the Ferrari and Corvette engineers. They look at everything in terms of increasing performance, be it skidpad, acceleration, skidpad handling and gas mileage.
I just love the Corvette for developing the balsa wood sandwich subfloor which lowers the weight, add strength and also adds an element of sound deadening.
