Default RE: A 600 HP Viper in 2008

ORIGINAL: Paladin06

Could this engine make its way to Challenger?

There is no chance they will find its way into the Challenger. This would threaten the Viper's sales. I can't see why they would do that when they could offer a HEMI that is smaller and similarily powered.

Patrick: yes Road & Track had an article about this as did Hot Rod magazine. Here is the info about the engine from R&T.

ORIGINAL: Road & Track
Article summary: "The Dodge Viper returns from vacation with more bite beneath its new hood, pushing the 600-bhp level thanks to major modifications of its OHV V-10."

"The boost in output comes from slightly more displacement, higher compression, variable valve timing and freer-breathing intake and exhaust.

Capacity is up marginally from 8.3 to 8.4 liters due to a slightly larger bore. Engineers worked most of their magic with a new cam-within-a-cam design giving variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust while the valves themselves are larger in diameter with machined hollow sterns that allow for higher-speed operation. The compression ratio has been boosted from 9.6:1 to 10.2:1. Much attention was paid to the dual throttle body intake plenum and exhaust headers to improve flow, and the crossover connecting the side pipes has been eliminated to further reduce backpressure."
