Default Tires option...

Well, I got my 09 SE today. TOR RED , and I got an SRT spoiler and chrome fuel door also added in the deal. This is a great car to drive and alot of fun.. I have the same feeling driving the new Challenger as the old 70's . So it must be right! Does anyone know how wide a tire can be put on the 17 inch wheels that come on the SE?? It has 215-65-17 on now and I'd like to put at least 60 or even 55's on there to widen the track. It has that tire monitering system on there and I wonder if altering the tire size would affect it? Thanks

Congrats! and welcome to the forum VP. Don"t you just love this car? Is it everything you thought and much much more?

Also... good question about the tire pressure monitoring system... anybody know exactly how it monitors pressure?

Cheers!! Have Fun... Be Safe... Enjoy the Ride!!

The TPMS won't be bothered by a larger tire size. It measures pressure, not the volume of air. As far as tire size, you know for sure a 255 will fit the wheel well, but the question is what size should you put on a certain rim width. You could go 225-55 or even 235-45 w/o much of a problem. Those sizes should be close to the same diameter so your speedometer won't be off. You can go to www.tirerack.com and that will show you your plus size options that will fit.

It is a radio transmitter - each wheel is a different frequency. This is why you have to re-train the car to learn the locations when you rotate the tires. It doesn't transmit until it detects centrifugal force (wheel is turning).

I am thinking it chimed because I looked down and it said right rear tire low,had tire psi view up instead of
Speedo and another light on far left, tire icon....

Thanks guys...I appreciate the help. I think I might go with 225-55-17's to get a wider look...
