03/09 Car & Driver (Hennessey HPE600 Turbo)
Just opened the new Car & Driver. There is a quick (2-page) article on the Hennessey Challenger HPE600 Turbo.
At 6 psi boost, they claim 620hp and 650 lb/ft. Good for a 12.2 in the 1/4 mile. Price as tested? $97,690. Yikes!
Best line in the article:
"In the movie 'Dr. Stangelove', Slim Pickens waves his cowboy hat as he rides a nuclear weapon dropped from a bomber. Now we know how he felt."

Haha, I read that same article. What's scary was that the package they tested was the THIRD most powerful option. I mentioned it to Rudy, who just lost a race with a Lambo

And, that big explosion you hear when he hit the ground would be your bank account going up in smoke after you pay for the Hennessey. Sorry, but to rich for my taste...for that kind of money I would be looking elsewhere......

Here is how Car and Driver described the Challenger's power: "Should you allow engine revs to surpass 3,100 or so, all bets are off. It's as if God reaches down and touches His BIC lighter to the infinite universe's shortest fuse. You can spin the Michelin PS2s all the way to the limiter in first gear, and they'll keep spinning halfway through second, at which pont you'll lift for fear of setting something alight- the road perhaps."
Here are the specs to the car:
HP= 620 @ 5,500 rpm
Torque= 650 lb-ft @ 4,200 rpm
Precision 67HPSH Turbo with 6 psi of boost an 4.4 mm wastegate
0-60 mph= 3.9 sec.
0-100 mph= 8.4 sec.
0-150 mph= 19.0 sec.
5-60 mph= 4.1 sec.
1/4 mile= 12.2 sec. @ 120 mph
Braking= 70-0 mph= 167 ft.
300-ft-dia skidpad= 0.95g
All this is great, but the package, at $55K over a stock SRT is grossly overpriced.
