2008 Chicago Auto Show: 2008 Dodge Challenger
CHICAGO — At long last, Chrysler has dropped the other shoe on the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, which makes its formal debut here at the annual show.
There aren't many details left that haven't already been revealed earlier by the automaker or leaked on numerous Web sites. But here are the salient points:
The 2008 Challenger is available only in the limited-edition SRT8 version, powered by a 6.1-liter Hemi V8 rated at 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Priced from $37,995, including a $675 shipping charge, the '08 Challenger goes on sale this spring.
Chrysler says the Challenger SRT8 should be able to lope from zero to 60 mph in "the low 5-second range" and pull 0.88 g on the skid pad. The quarter-mile run should take less than 14 seconds, while the 0-100-0-mph loop will be accomplished in less than 17 seconds.
Chrysler is offering the Challenger SRT8 in three colors — Hemi Orange, Bright Silver Metallic and Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat — with wide hood stripes painted to resemble carbon fiber. The '08 models each come with an individually numbered dash plaque.
What this means to you: In case you were wondering, Dodge's "all-American" muscle car is built in Canada. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

RE: 2008 Chicago Auto Show: 2008 Dodge Challenger
I saw the pic's of the new SRT8 on Jalopnik.com. I'm bummed. It looks too much like the Charger/300 and the SUPER body lines of the Concept have been lost with an extended rear roof line and a boxey rear quarter. The interior and Instrument cluster are boring and the steering wheel is a joke. I can't imagine how sad the people who ordered the SRT8 sight unseen will be. This car is only a fraction of what I expected when I heard the Concept Body would be kept as close as possible.
I won't be ordering this car even with a six speed/Hemi unless they fix the body/interior or drop the price to 30k. I'd rather buy a Mustang GT 500 because at least Ford found a way to bring back the Muscle-car look of 70-71. This "Challenger" isn't a jaw dropper like the Concept. This car is a Charger/300 with a body kit. [:'(]

I guess you missed my point. I'd pay 60k for a GT 500 before I'd pay 30k for this sad attempt at producing the Concept. Try harder with the 2009 RT Mopar gods. FYI, I'd pay 75K for this car if it had the Concept lines and a 6.1 Hemi with a Pistol Grip six speed.

i guess you asked for too much then... this car looks amazing and as close to the concept as they could with all the safety standards....MOPAR FANS STAND UP!!!!! and if you pay 60k for a shelby .. thats sad its an american car geez not a luxery car.

The engine pic shown here clearly indicates the hood scoops are NOT functional. Also the dog Charger interior.

For me the car went from a 10 to a 7 1/2.
