The muscle car is back. Dodge is releasing the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 next month to join the retro looking Ford Mustang on the roads, while GM prepares to launch its new Chevy Camaro sometime soon.
The 2009 Challenger brings back a nameplate that had been idle for decades. The new Challenger won't come cheap topping out at over $38,000 and Dodge plans on building only 6,800 of the vehicles.
So what do you get for 38k nowadays? A V8 1.0 Liter Hemi will power the Challenger and it will deliver 425 HP. The car sprints to 60 miles an hour in less than 4 seconds. The car will hit showrooms next month.
Here is a video where you can see the Challenger in action:

Hey, it also makes 0-60 in under 4 seconds.
Wow, it is much faster than we really thought. Must have a rocket assist for blast off.

You have to remember that Chrysler tried the pixie dust with the caliber and got chastised for it. So this new 1.0L V8 that run's like a bat outta hell is the answer they have now.[sm=icon_rofl.gif]

How the hell does this stuff get published??? I don't think there was a single accurate fact in that!
1.) 2008 is coming out, not 2009.
2.) It's not coming out next month
3.) 6400 not 6800, and that's only the 2008s
4.) 1.0 liter engine? The only number in that that's right is a 1 and it's not in the right place
5.) less than 4 seconds for 38k? Sign me up for the best deal in the history of earth.

while at the show, I corrected a reporter taping a spot for Motor Trend TV...He said there would be 10,000 '08 Challengers... He re-did the spot and changed it to 6400...I really lose faith in the media when I read an article about a subject I actually know something about...too bad more people dont follow the "dont believe everything you read" rule!!
This kind of ignorance is out there all over the place.
I stopped by a dealer in Hampton, VA yesterday to inquire about their '08 Challenger(s). The first salesman wasn't sure if he had any in stock right now, but he could check and get back to me. The second guy said they weren't introducing it until today (Saturday) at the Chicago Auto Show (I told him it actually had been introduced on Wednesday). Then their expert told me they had ordered 4 of them, that they had taken deposits for 3, were selling them for MSRP, but had no idea how many he was actually going to get. He also told me he was pretty sure they were making only 4,000 of them.
Then I stopped by another dealer in Yorktown, VA and asked the same questions. This guy knew a little more, but he said he hadn't sold his yet, hadn't taken any deposits, didn't know how much he would sell it for it and figured he would probably put it up for auction when it finally came in. I asked if he would sell it for MSRP and he said he didn't think so.
Next I stopped by my dealer and he told me one of the local wholesalers called him last night and was trying to buy as many as he could on the premise that he can sell them back to dealers for 15k over MSRP. He also told me he's getting numerous calls daily on the Challengers. Seems everybody is asking these questions and trying to find which dealers will sell for sticker and which are planning to mark it up.
Right, wrong or indifferent, I agreed back in December to pay a pretty hefty premium over MSRP and I may be the only poster here who has admitted doing so. But I also know I can bail out of the deal and not lose my deposit. If other unsold Challengers don't sell immediately, we'll see how well the premiums hold up. Right now, an '08 Challenger at MSRP sounds like a great deal to me!
