Challenger Magazine Articles
I just got the November issues of Car and Driver and Motor Trend. Here's what they contain:
Car and Driver
The Challenger SRT was entered in Car and Driver's Third Annual Lightning Lap at the Virginia International Raceway, with 15 cars in the $30-60K range. It scored only 10th behind cars like a Corvette Z51, Cadillac CTS-V and BMW M3.
The critical comments were: "As track cars go, VIR proved that the Dodge Challenger SRT 8 is a lovely street rod. It did turn better times than the Charger SRT 8 of the 2006 Lightning Lap, but largely because of its higher performance tires and lower curb weight. At 4,146 lbs., the Challenger was 95 lbs. lighter than the Charger, but nonetheless, the driver never, ever ceases to be aware of its mass, aggravated by numb steering. And the automatic transmission didn't help, either. (Memo to Dodge: Enlarge the IP gear-selection readout- it's almost invisible). We'd hoped for a manual model, available for '09, which would have made a difference. But even so, if the Audi S5 isn't overjoyed to be on a racetrack, the Challenger is downright miserable."
Question- Kyle Petty loved the SRT when he tested it on a track on Motor Week. How can Car and Driver make these stupid comments?
Chevy Camaro 2010
3.6
300 hp (est.)
273 lb/ft (est.)
0-60 mph- 6.1 sec.
1/4 mile- 14.5 sec @97 mph
Motor Trend
Motor Trend has the Challenger SRT's European Tour that was posted a few month's ago on its web site. Great color photos plus a large three-page pull-out photo of the Challenger. Well worth having!
Also, there were road tests of the Dodge Ram R/T and the new V6 Camaro. Here are the specs:
Dodge Ram R/T
5.7 Hemi
390 hp@ 5,600 rpm
407 lb/ft. @4,000 rpm
0-60mph- 5.7 sec.
1/4 mile- 14.4 sec.@93.4 mph
Chevy Camaro 2010
3.6
310 hp (est.)
270 lb/ft (est.)
0-60 mph- 6.1 sec. (mfr)

Kyle had THE GRIN...
Maybe he needs to drive a Challenger to the track so that he will have the GRIN with him as he races.....
