What do you think they have in mind for it? I think they just are advertising the engine for the sake of selling it for a crate engine in the after market area.

I agree. The clip on Edmunds seems to make the same assertion. Basically DCX will use this SS concept to showcase the aftermarket modifications that Challenger buyers can create which includes a nice selection of high HP engines.

A nice teaser for those who like to modify.

i cant imagine them pushing this crate motor as hard as they are...they sell lots of crate motors, and some of them (like the 426 hemi) make alot more than 540hp...

From what I read the 426 HEMI crate engine only produces 465 hp and 520 ft-lbs of tq. The thing is this might be a dealer option they are trying to push for or something. Do you really think they will offer it in the Challenger?

Default Super Sport!?

I think it is rather interesting that the carbie 392 is pushing more ponies than its fuel-injected sibling. It sounds like the emphasis for better engineering didn't go to perfecting the injection...IOff the wall concept, but I wonder if marketing had a hand in that, maybe to push the engine for older applications...hmmmm

right now, the "big swap" is to put the 5.7 or 6.1 in vintage muscle, especially challengers and chargers...im thinking that they are aiming for those people with this engine.

That is sort of what I was thinking.

To Kelly, my theory on why the carb version is pushing more ponies is because it is only a EFI system instead of a SFI like the other 5.7L and 6.1L models are.

Take a stock 426 Hemi crate engine, slide in a comp street roller,(solid), and the approp. springs, degree it and presto, 600 H.P. you cannot do that with the GenIII Hemis. Airflow in the heads=350cfm+ potential is 700 H.P.

I don't doubt it, I just saying that stock-for-stock with these crate engines the 426 doesn't offer more hp as you would think it would. The 426 would probably have more untapped potiential though.
