Dodge Challenger Makes a Comeback

The Daily Auto Insider

July 2006

Chrysler will build a production version of the Dodge Challenger coupe with the first vehicles arriving in showrooms in early 2008, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The car debuted as a retro-styled concept car in January at the Detroit auto show and drew raves from enthusiasts, according to another story in the Detroit News.

Chrysler plans to build the Dodge Challenger on the same platform as its rear-drive Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, which are built in Brampton, Ontario.

The concept Challenger has a 116-inch wheelbase, six inches longer than the original and it's two inches wider. Presumably, the production version will be similarly sized.

Chrysler's top sales and marketing executive, Joe Eberhardt, has said in the past that a production version of the Challenger could be priced slightly higher than the Ford Mustang, which has a starting price of between $19,000 and $26,000 depending on engine choice and other options.

Chrysler will make fewer than 50,000 Challengers a year, Chrysler Chief Tom LaSorda LaSorda said.
