Drag Racing the 2008 Dodge Challenger Super Stock Concept
I thought this was a really cool article.
It's about the 525 hp version. [:-]
It had me shaking like when Homer Simpson says "mmmmm donuts"

Edited to add: There's a must-see video on that web page!
OH GOD that hemi engine sounds SO good.
I am *so* looking forward to getting a Challenger.

I saw that castrol commerical the other day for the first time. The only thing that would have made it better if the red charger was a mustang[8D]
That definitaly gets me all giggty inside[sm=drooldude.gif]. Although I've seen it before, it will never get old.

What a great article...my favorite line is "Challenger makes a sound so American I almost break into the national anthem inside my helmet"
Goosebumps is all I can say....I can't wait for that!![8D]

ive seen that one in person, and i was actually disappointed. there is very little about it that has anything to do with the concept, she of the body and maybe the chassis. it had a dana solid axle rearend with leaf springs, old school auto trans, open exhaust, lightweight wheels and brakes, slicks..etc. so its very heavily modified compared to the challenger production model, and only runs mid 11s.
thats right, only.
all of that work, and it only runs mid 11s? there are people getting new GT500s near the 11s with VERY little work done, and the gt500 costs about the same as the sRT8 sedans..which are getting into the high 12s, almost stock..
so all of that work, including an engine, transmission, and rear diff swap, for a little over a second drop?

thats not a valid argument. fast stock is fast stock. it doesnt matter how you get there. dont get me wrong, i like to poke fun at my ford buddies with "you have to have FI to go fast", but its still a 42,000 dollar car (without markup) that will slaughter the current srt8 lineup. the gt500 is blown, but its only a 4.6...the srt8 cars are 6.1...and in all fairness, there are guys with NA mustang GTs, with very little done, who are running similar numbers to the srt8 sedans...and the mustang gt is MUCH cheaper...if you dont like the GT500 comparison, compare the C6 vette base model. there are guys in the mid 12s with automatic versions...for the price similar to that of the srt8 cars.
dodge just needs to make a real performance car that doesnt cost 45000...

Not to get in a pissing match but how do you know its much cheaper if we do not even know the prices yet? Are you making an educated guess? You mention the GT500 "without markup"...ummmmm...where can I get one of those?

so, you honestly think that the challenger with a 6.4L, 525hp engine is going to cost less than the 425hp 300C srt8 with the 6.1? keeping in mind that the viper, with only 505hp, was over $80,000...im not saying that if we see a 6.4L powered challenger its going to cost 80 grand, but i cant forsee them asking less than the 40,000 price of the srt8 300c...the shelby gt500 has an msrp of 42,000-ish...and they are on lots now, so with a little effort, you should be able to find one without a huge markup, but the same way that the C6 vettes and the gt500s were marked up, you can guarantee that the same will happen with any challenger, especially one with a 6.4. also keep in mind that if you were to buy a base model challenger, say that its 30,000...not including any labor costs, the 392 hemi crate motor is around 16,000 dollars. that doesnt include the built transmission or dana rear diff in the SS concept...
