Either she is confused or the 2009 Model's details will not be discussed in Chicago in February but in NY in March.

Of course, the production model unveiling is still in February but I can't believe they would not discuss details.

Here are the first official teaser shots of the production version of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, a car that has had buyers racing to throw down deposits, somewhat sight unseen, even though the model will not hit showrooms until next spring.


Chrysler says it received more than 4300 deposits on the first day it began taking orders this past week for the retro car that hasn't even started production yet at the Brampton, Ontario, plant. The public doesn’t get its first look at the production model until February at the Chicago auto show, but the final version does not stray much from the concept that bowed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

For 2008, there will only be one Challenger trim level—a limited-run of the SRT8 performance version, with a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 pumping out 425 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. It is available in black, silver, or “Hemi orange,” the latter exclusive to the 2008 model (more than half the initial orders have opted for the orange), as are the signature dual Dodge hood stripes in carbon fiber. Each Challenger in the 2008 run will have a numbered dash plaque.

For 2009, when the base and R/T Challengers go on sale, we expect black and silver to remain in the color palette along with new, undisclosed hues. Details of the 2009 models must wait for their reveal in March at the New York auto show.

The SRT8 will start at $40,095 (a figure that includes a $2100 gas-guzzler charge), and there are already reports of eBay auctions being set up by dealers asking $15,000 over sticker.
