Ordinarily, a sporty two-door car wouldn't be a critical product for any car company. That was until Ford revamped the Mustang and showed there are still a lot of fun-seeking Americans ready for something a little light on practicality.
After that, General Motors announced it was bringing back the Chevrolet Camaro and Chrysler announced the return of the Dodge Challenger. Unlike the Mustang, both those nameplates were solidly in the grave so the revival will take some time. Don't expect to see them until next year.
Both will be at least as important for their brand-building emotional boost as for any sales revenue they generate.

I agree, it does help brand build. I also think people need to consider some other factors on why these models are suddenly more popular again. It is partly due to the fact that fuel prices have gone up and although these models are far from practical, they get better fuel mileage than the trucks and SUVs that people were driving before. I think the timing was perfect for these models to return for the current market.

It also helps that in the american psychy the Challenger is always thought in ways of pure power and speed. Same with the Charger. when you mention Challenger, people will say BAD RIDE or AWSOME CAR. We think this because of image. Its ingrained in our minds. So sell the dream. Use the legend to your benefit.
