Default Engine problem

Hello!

Im a noob here and to the world of mopar.
Today i was going to get my first American car. A 1974 Dodge challenger. The test dident go well.
2 miles (if so) crusing in 60mph then i braked alittle before a bend. Then the car just died like it was out of gas.

It has spark on all cylinders it got gas. We tryed to start it whit adding gas in the carb and using start gas.
Nothing. The timing looks good. The gas flows good.
No ratling or noise.
Its like it dosent get any gas but it does.

PLZ HELP.

Is this the life of a mopar guy

Are you sure you have hot spark? Not low level weak spark. Could be the notorious ignition box. If you have healthy spark and you put gas down the carb. It should crank. Might check to make sure the timing chain did not break or jump timing. Take valve cover off and set to TDC. Take off dist. cap and see where the rotor button is pointing. Should be at #1. If all these check out then spark plugs and wires should do the trick. Let me know if this helps.

Another thing you might want to check is the starter.

In my old 68 charger, it just you to shut off like that for no reason and 5 minutes later start right back up and ran perfect. It acted like this for months until I changed the starter

if the timing chain brake, wont the engine destroy itself on this old car?
Like the valve and rockers ann the pushrods?

the timing chain was only alittel loos. anyway we change it since we have the parts and it took alot of time to get to it.

Now the car run. but its not running properly. We messed whit the timing and it got better but when we used the pedal it stoped.

What kind of carb are you running on the car and is it set up. No leaks, vacuum or gas? And did you change the plugs and wires? Also a compression test would go a long ways to tell what kind of shape the cylinders and valves are in. Also .... did you use a timing light and if so, does it have the capacity to check advance??? Let us know if this helps any at all. Good luck.
