Default 1/4 Mile Times

A note from a article found on the web.

The concept car itself was built very quickly by Metalcrafters, which builds Chrysler’s concepts; the body is made of carbon fiber, not steel or fiberglass. The car is wider and shorter (in both length and wheelbase) than the Dodge Charger. The wheels are far larger than those of the original cars, though styled to look similar: 20 inches up front and 21 inches in back. The color is original for the concept, though the Hemi has authentic orange paint. The Dodge-provided 13.0 second quarter mile time and 4.5 second 0-60 would not apply to actual production cars, since it comes via dual Flowmaster mufflers with no catalytic converters.

This is disappointing!!! No sweat. I had planned to SC mine anyway.

It's tough to discuss performance numbers when we don't even know what engine it will have. Do we all agree that it will probably run 13.x in the quarter?

i was right! those are flows!

something to think about..

dodge, and many magazines, have stated that that the 300 srt8, and the charger srt8 are both 13.2 vehicles...but it you look at th real times turned in by those cars, guys are getting 12.7-12.8s out of them...in a heavier car, with a trans that eats more power....i am guessing that their 13.0 ET is followed by a huge mph...showing that with those awful, inefficient tires/rims, it cant get off the line...i feel that those numbers are heavily understated...because its the same engine, in a lighter car, putting more power to the ground...

Well, traditionally Chrysler underrates their times and puts higher numbers for the acceleration times than what they actually do. I think 4.5 0-60 and 13.0 1/4 mile is possible for the 6.1L, espically if they gear the put in a slightly lower speed rear-end. Plus the Charger and 300C SRT-8s are posting times that are just slightly slower than this and they are supposed to weigh more and they don't have a manual to help the times.

Yes. When the LX line showed up Chrysler rated the 5.7L to do 0-60 in around 6.3 secs, but the magazines got them to do it in the mid-5 second range. When the SRT-8 version came out, they clamed it would do the lower 5 seconds in the 0-60 and it has been found to do around 4.6-4.8 with the 300C and Charger SRT-8. Chrysler likes to underrate because they know the audience will already be impressed with the numbers they post and will be even more impressed when they see that it is better than what they claim. By doing this, they establish credibility with the customer, as well as create high expectations, which will earn them more customers in the long run. I think the Challenger is going to impress us with the 6.1L model, by being able to beat the GT500.

What and SC and 8psi inercooled boost we can exceed that easily. I'll be replacing the OEM's with Flowmaster right off the lot.

Well, I have to again revert to the test Motor Trend did with the SRT-8. They found that it actually produced 467 hp. From a review I read on the GT500, the supercharger they put in there is for more high end hp & tq. Now considering that a 32 valve DOHC already tends to produce more high end power, I think the HEMI could match it with the fact that it produces more consistent power, flatter hp & torque curve. In a past test I think Motor Trend did, a 350 hp Corvette managed to defeat a 390 hp supercharge 4.6L Mustang Cobra in acceleration. So I won't be surprised if the Challenger manages to do the same. Also, I mentioned this in another post on this forum. In the picture of the 6.1L, in the concept picture, they show a air filter which looks like a cotton-gause (K&N type) air filter. Does the 6.1L offered in the Charger, 300C, and Magnum have the same air filter on the SRT-8 models? If not this will improve it some more and possibly enough to top the Mustang.
