Default 5.7 R/T or 6.1 SRT

I know with the rumor that the 2009 5.7 R/T will have VCT and 380 hp, many are now reconsidering buying the 6.1 SRT. (The SRT is also more expensive, has the $2,100 gas guzzler tax, and may be more to insure).

So, I was just wondering...

How much slower will the 5.7 be in the 1/4 mile?[sm=interesting.gif]

Using an on-line drag race calculator, I came up with these approximations:

6.1 SRT= 12.45 sec. @ 109.47 mph

5.7 R/T= 12.90 sec. @105.40 mph

A difference of .5 sec. and 4 mph

Question- Does this sway any one on the fence?

Doesn't really matter to me because I don't live and die by 1/4 mile times. I'd really love an SRT, but it's all going to come down to what kind of deal I can get... and I'm guessing a less powerful R/T will be cheaper than an SRT, plus gas and insurance will be too over the long run.

I really want the 6.1, but it sure does cost alot more than the 5.7. but the 6.1 will have a better sound when i put some Cherry Bombs on it.(and i really love to the engine working)

Yes I agree.

With great power, comes great responsibilities.

No one should be as anal as me on the G Tax issue but because of it i have decided for the 5.7.
I know, i know....it shouldnt be the decision maker but if it is a 50/50 pro and con the G tax pushes me over the edge. I have the repubs and dems to thank!

Easier said than done. The Stang will blow the doors off the R/T (call it an educated guess). If you want to "beat a Stang" you're gonna need the 6.1 liter and an extra $15,000...
ORIGINAL: mac

Hey I am not a player hater, if you want the extra horsepower and extras associated with the car, go for it. I can only speak for myself and what I want from the car. Just do me a favor and don't get beat off the line by a "stang". You have to represent us challenger owners. With the 6.1, comes responsibilities.

i know i said i wouldn't post again because of bootcamp. but i couldn't stay out of this one.
If the SRT really runs a 4.7 0-60 like car and driver says. Then i'd say 5.1 for the R/T is a very good guess. Which is what the GT runs.
I'd say they'll be neck and neck. Maybe even the R/T inching it out.
Im only saying that based on the car and driver times though. Peace....
