6.1L vs. 5.7L Manual Trans HP Ratings?

OK, here's a question to ponder. Chrysler shows 5 more HP on the 5.7 mated to a manual transmission and provides no discrepancy for the 6.1 mated to a manual tranmission. Does this seem likely that on the 6.1 HP is identical through two different transmissions?

i think i remember reading when the 5.7 numbers came out for the challenger it has something to do with the exhaust on the manual it is setup a little different giving you 5 more hp no sure why though

I read that the manual RT gets a "unique dual exhaust that has two low-restriction bottle resonators replacing the underfloor muffler."

I hope the different exhaust sounds like the 1970's, that would be cool. Well it really won't matter because i will probaly swicth them for Flowmasters or Cherry bombs.;)

Dodge has stated that the exhaust note on the SRT is at the highest maximum decibel readings permitted under state regulations. [sm=badbadbad.gif]

I assume that the R/T's will be almost as good.

It is wrong to assume that the R/T's will be almost the same in every way as the SRT8. That is simply a hope and prayer for those who do NOT buy the big dog SRT8.

If Chrysler did that , why would anyone buy the SRT8 ? They have to make enough of a difference to justify the extra $$$.

Agreed. That is why I qualified it by saying ALMOST as good.

Also, I was only referring to the exhaust sound. Everyone knows that the SRT is superior to the R/T in horsepower, braking, handling, and trim levels.

RE: 6.1L vs. 5.7L Manual Trans HP Ratings?

I could see this go in one of two ways. It is possible that the lower output through the exhaust was intended on the automatic for the R/T so then people would only need to use the more affordable mid-grade fuel over premium needed on the manual models, on the other hand as others have already stated the SRT is already hitting the limit as is with the laws, so then again it might not. I also have read before that the 5-speed W5A580's torque limit is supposed to be around 427 ft-lbs, so it is possible that they might have held back on the engine so then it wouldn't blow anything and since we know that the TR-6060 can handle far more than 427ft-lbs without breaking a sweat, it is possible the output might be higher.

most people are gonna go aftermarket on mufflers anyway so it wont really matter

Well, what matters is in the case of the magazine show downs. The extra output might be the deciding difference no matter how small it is. Also, some states have tighter regulations that would limit your options as well.

Yeah, that's a great show. They get away with stuff over there. They did a great show featuring the EVO as a budget super car. Really cool piece.
