Post Dodge better check its rear-view mirror!

If Dodge is to remain competitive, its new 6.4 Hemi better be supercharged.

GM has just announced that it wil be building a Z-28 Camaro in 2011. It will have a 6.2 supercharged engine that will make 556 hp and 550 ft-lbs torque. This will generate 3.9 sec. 0-60 mph, 12.3 sec. quarter, and 193 mph top speed. It will only cost about $8k more than an SS model- about the same as a Challenger SRT.

See the Motor Trend article at:

I think the HP battles between GM and Dodge are well documented and we the car fans are the winners. Look at the Muscle car years and the battle between Viper and Corvette. I feel GM blinked first by going the supercharger route. And it seems they will take the easy out with the Z-28. I think the 6.4 has alot more there yet to be tapped. VVT and some aggressive fuel mapping and the 550 HP we have heard could be over 600HP. With Chevy getting there by force induction. Everyone will have there opinion and this is mine. Superchargers are for the aftermarket. Don't be lazy with the R&D and continue to make inroads for future platforms. If it means we look to be 2nd or even 3rd best in a timed straight line then so be it.

I find in the Chevy boy and girl world they compare the top of the line SRT-8 to their lowest SS so the price sounds more inflated. God forbid you should point it out. They also like to compare the R/T to the SS and say price range is similar. Then go to the SRT-8 to compare gas mileage. You can't win with them. Also we are pigs in the amount of weight we are compared to them. I sure don't see 300 lbs as being overly porky. I take my 125 lb. girl friend and they take their 300 lb. gal and we have a race. But if you want a good laugh go to Gen 5 forums and watch fan boyism at it best. There are some good guys there but alot of them will defend the Camaro as the end all to be all. I like my R/T and I really like driving it and seems most folks like it too. I was on my way to work today and a guy pulls up on the interstate to ask what kind of car this is. My son tells him its a Challenger and he says quote " thats one bad m$#@*& f*#@%#$". I don't condone vulgarity but it was hard to argue with him.

The HP battle will be fought at the other end of the scale. The 2011 Mustang and Camaro V6s both pushing 305 HP with claims of near 30 MPG, it’s time for Dodge to get their V6 into the hunt.

Check allpar on the new phoenix engines. 6 and 4 cylinders. They are really well thought out engines with power and economy in mind. I do not know if they will be built... but they have a lot of R&D in these motors and I would think with the Italian connection they will put out more HP and better fuel mileage than Ford or Chevy. I hope it will be a go. But I am more interested in the 6.4 rumors.
