They give the SE MSRP as $21,995. My dealer now has 3 on the lot his asking price is $24,800

What sort of options do the cars have? I ordered my SE with absolutely nothing except for a spare tire and a smokers package (both of which have to be installed by the dealer). Hence, it's $21,995 + $100 + $30. I've got the feeling those cars have more equipment than that.

if i can wiggle the dealer down to $17.5k for a base SE i may just buy one for my daughter...if not ill find a used one in a few years with low miles

If they get into the rental-car market, you probably can pick one up for about that price fairly quickly. That's what I'm hoping will happen so I can get Challenger No. 2 (actually No. 3, if you count my late '70) at a decent price.
