Thanks fatcat! Forgot myself a little. A few more hours and it will be Miller Time!!! I think my basic issue is we are talking about a new car, not a 70 or something. I read people saying they will buy the RT, then dump a ton of mods on it to make it go faster. They wont buy an SRT because it costs too much! Geez, when you boil down the mods on this board to date there is about 3-4k to dump into the car and while it MAY be as fast as an SRT, it wont have the braking, cornering etc. of the SRT. It wont have several of the other options either. Now, when you add those items into the mix it may be another 4-5K or more in order to get the performance of what you can buy for that overall cost or less. I know people will say tht its fun to do it, or that they for instance dont like Brembo brakes etc. that they want to add something different. Well, that different is going to cost big bucks to do.

Sort of like telling the Air Force to go buy a bunch of Cessna's for Air Defense, and then telling them to go buy everything they need to turn them into F22 Raptors!

But your right, everyone is entitled to thier own opinion and this one is mine.

WOW a $38k sticker price on an RT?!!!!!
When the sticker on an 08 SRT is 40-41 why even think about an RT??? That price for an RT is ridiculous!!! The 08 SRT's have been sitting on lots and dealers keep knocking the mark-up down closer and closer to the sticker price. I will keep waiting bc the 3 SRT's on the lot near me have been sitting there for 3 months so they will need to move them pretty soon before the 09's come in.

the dealership that I ordered by 6 speed R/T just got an auto R/T.

Salesman called me and they told me they would sell it to me for sticker.

We drove it and it was smooth.

But the one thing I was not impressed was the power or lack there of.

It seemed it took a split second to long to take off and even they pull was not great.

I assume this is from the 3.08 gears. Yes this car had the 20 inch rims, sunroof, myGIG, 28J package, electronics group, sound group II, HID, Uconnect.
Sticker was $37945 and the mileage was if I remember correctly was 16 in the city and 25 in the highway. I assume this is due to the MDS.

I am hoping my 09 R/T with the 6 speed and 20" rims and 3.92 gears can have some more pull.

My 2002 6 speed z28 felt faster IMO. When we bought my z28 we tested an auto z28 with I think 3.23 gears and that felt slow. that is why we went with the 6 speed z28!!

Anybody else experience the same in testing an 09 R/T auto with 20 inch rims??

If you want kick-ass power in this car - go for the SRT8 model.

For $38,000, you can get a stripped down BRAND NEW CORVETTE with 430 HP that will blow the doors off the SRT8 model. Zero to 60 is 4.3 seconds.

Now, I am not on this forum singing the praises of the Corvette. The point is that sometimes, zero to 60 is not the reason for buying this kind of car.

I have had several new Corvettes in the past ten years. They are very difficult to live with on a daily basis. I will gladly sacrifice time from zero to 60 in exchange for a comfortable stylist ride.

The new Challenger has knockout styling, great performance and very comfortable. In a big city traffic, none of us are going anywhere real fast anyway.

I am expecting my 2009 R/T anyday now. I have already driven one and I think the performance is pretty good. I can't wait to drive it everyday. If I am not the first guy to the next red light - I can live with that.

I was not really complaining (ok, maybe I was a little) but I wanted a full loaded 6-speed R/T.

Kinda like the 383 mopars in the 60's. there were they 6's and 318's, then came the nice small block 340's and 383's.

Next in line were the 440's and hemis.

I had a 318 in my 67 charger and it was a great cruiser with some mods (exhaust, intake, 4 barrel carb and 3.55 gears instead of the 2.94 gears it came with).

I next threw in a 440 and talk about a word of difference!!

I was just hoping for a little more power.

to be honest, my 04 ram 4 door pickup with the hemi and auto is faster IMO. Yes the ram has the 3.92 gears so hopefully the R/T with the 3.92 gears and 6 speed with feel like my ram and if it does, I am happy.

As for the vette, I test drove an 08 vette a few weeks back with the 436 hp and duall mode exhaust with the 6 speed. Very fast and smooth but not as smooth as the R/T!!

I wanted a fully R/T and that is what I ordered.

i honestly believe the extra 50 horse in the SRT vs R/T is not worth the $10k increase in price. Just my $.02!

sorry to piss off anybody but just wanted to give my honest opinion on the auto R/T. I am sure most people in the general public will love the power it has now stock, but there is not the 10% of us that I beleive were expecting more.

Over and out!!!

I am very happy with the power my SRT8 has. I will not be racing it (much) as I have a 1970 Daytona clone and a 1967 Charger for that. And, after pricing replacement Goodyear Supercar tires...I'll save the burnouts (for the most part)for them as well...
I was going to wait and order an 09 RT, but after owning the SRT.......glad I went with the "top of the line"
After reading a few posts it appears that if you want a well balanced all around package.....go with the SRT. you will save money in the long run.

Uhh what is the 0-60 of the '09 R/T manual transmission car? I sure hope it's in the low 5's which is where the slightly less expensive mustang sits. To me those cars are competing with each other for price/performance and as such should sit pretty close.

DODGE SAYS 0-60 IN 5.5 EXPECT IT to be 5.2-5.3 manual and 5.3-5.4 auto

Yes, I have been a member for a few years but don't post a lot. To busy learning from all those who seem to know a lot about the 1st Generation Charger. Just as I am learning a lot about the new Challenger from this forum. I am a B-body guy from way back and have owned four 66s and my present 67 (built 360 6-pak/Auto). (A 66 was my first car......) then a 69 RT/SE then a 68 RT then two '70 RT/SE Challengers, and then a 1970 Hemi/4-spd Superbird. (wish I still had the bird....could buy a house for what they are selling for today!)

I think Dodge is hiding something with these R/T 6sd's, they just about have to faster than some of these tests.
